Texans Standing Tall is collaborating with colleges, community coalitions, and organizations across Texas to host three Regional College Forums focused on preventing underage drinking and binge drinking at institutions of higher education.  The Gordie Foundation is a proud participant in the Forum to be held at Southern Methodist University.

A screening of HAZE and a Q&A session was presented / sponsored / hosted by Fairfax County Police Department, the Countywide Initiative to Reduce Underage Drinking, and Northern Virginia Community College.  Parents and students were encouraged to attend together.

The Gordie Foundation presented to The Community School's senior class and their parents on May 18th.  The presentation included a screening of HAZE and a presentation on the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the parents and teens of Howard county Maryland.  The presentation  included a screening of HAZE and information about the dangers of alcohol misuse and hazing.  The event was sponsored by HC Drug Free.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the Topics and Trends Study Club of the Junior League of Dallas on Monday, April 26th.  The presentation focused on the dangers and prevalence of binge drinking and hazing on campuses across the nation.

The senior class and a group of parents of the Episcopal School of Dallas screened HAZE on Friday, April 23rd.

The DKE and Tri Delta chapters of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill hosted a screening of HAZE for students.  During the screening, free educational materials featuring the signs of alcohol poisoning and the dangers of alcohol misuse were distributed. 

Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas hosted a Gordie Day on Wednesday, April 21st.  The day included a screening of HAZE as well as discussion groups and the distribution of Gordie materials.

The Circle of Trust chapter at Franklin & Marshall hosted a screening of HAZE followed by discussion and Q&A on April 15th. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the student body of Berkshire School on April 15th.  The presentation included a screening of HAZE as well as a information about the dangers of alcohol misuse and binge drinking.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the students and parents of the Gilman School about the dangers of alcohol misuse, binge drinking, and hazing.

The students of St. Ignatius College Prep School watched the High School version of HAZE on April 13th and participated in classroom discussions on April 14th.   In addition to the film, St. Ignatius distributed a variety of The Gordie Foundation educational materials to students about the dangers of alcohol misuse. 

The Drug & Alcohol Peer Advisors (DAPA) on Harvard's campus, in cooperation with the Circle of Trust members and the Harvard Athletic Department, held a charity event with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Gordie Foundation.  During the event, the group attempted to lift 1,000,000 lbs!

The Gordie Foundation presented to over 500 students at the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Statewide Conference held in Dallas, Texas.  The sessions, "No Fly Zone - Alcohol Poisoning", focused on the dangerous binge drinking culture on high school campuses across the country. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the student body of Hillsdale College about the dangers of alcohol misuse and binge drinking. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the students of Pomfret School in Pomfret Connecticut.  The presentation included a screening of HAZE as well as information about the dangers of binge drinking and peer pressure.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the Lone Star Chapter of the Young Mens Service League.  The presentation included a screening of HAZE and information on alcohol misuse and binge drinking. 

All registered Chapters of The Circle of Trust were shipped free educational materials to use on their campuses during their Spring, 2010 programs.  Over 14,000 pieces of material were shipped out!

The APPLE conferences, developed by the Center for Alcohol and Substance Education at the University of Virginia with the support of the NCAA, are the leading national training symposiums dedicated to substance abuse prevention and health promotion for student athletes and athletic department administrators.  The Gordie Foundation was a proud sponsor of the 2010 APPLE Orlando conference hosting over 33 Colleges / Universities.

The APPLE conferences, developed by the Center for Alcohol and Substance Education at the University of Virginia with the support of NCAA, are the leading national training symposiums dedicated to substance abuse prevention and health promotion for student athletes and athletic department administrators.  The Gordie Foundation was proud to  sponsor the 2010 APPLE conference in Charlottesville and thanks to the over 40 schools that sent teams to participate. 

The Gordie Foundation proudly participanted in the 2010 Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention & Intervention Conference. This three-day conference brought together senior-level campus administrators, prevention and education staff and researchers from the alcohol and other drug arena to focus on advancing knowledge and information sharing about alcohol and other drug use on colleges and universities.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the Juniors and Seniors of Richland Collegiate High School on the dangers of binge drinking and alcohol misuse. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the upper school students and parents of Parish Episcopal School about the dangers of alcohol misuse and hazing.   The presentation included a screening of the high school version of HAZE. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the 9th grade religious school students of Temple EmanuEl.  The presentation included a screening of the high school version of HAZE as well as a presentation about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and peer pressure.

The Gordie Foundation presented facts on the dangers of alcohol misuse and binge drinking to a group of Dallas Independent School District health teachers. 

The Gordie Foundation screened HAZE and presented information about the dangers of binge drinking and alcohol misuse to the high school students of the Shelton School on Wednesday, November 18th. 

The Gordie Foundation is proud to have had HAZE selected as a component of the Lone Star Film Festival's educational series.  The film screened for students of Ft. Worth schools - Southwest High School and All Saints Episcopal School.

In partnership with Outside the Classroom, The Gordie Foundation has selected Chancellor Mark Nordenberg of The University of Pittsburgh as the 2009 recipient of the Presidential Leadership Award in recognition of his efforts to make cultural changes on his campus surrounding alcohol misuse and abuse.  A $50,000 donation has been made to The University of Pittsburgh in his honor.

In reward for being awarded as "best overall" National GORDIEday 2008, Middlebury College hosted actor / director Jamie Widdoes (played Hoover in Animal House) for a special Halloween event!  The event included a screening of Animal House for the entire student body as well as a discussion about the college environment portrayed in the film compared to today's college experience. 

Trinity College hosted a screening of HAZE in the Washington room in Mather.  Sponsored by the Greek community and the Dean of Students Office, the screening was free and open to the public.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the student body of Hamilton High School about the dangers of alcohol misuse and binge drinking.  The presentation included a screening of the High School version of HAZE.

The Center for Students Rights and Responsibilities in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Center at The University of North Texas hosted a victims panel for alcohol awareness.  The Gordie Foundation was proud to participate in the panel and provide insight into the issues surrounding alcohol misuse on college and high school campuses.

The Office of Student Life and PAUSE of Collin College hosted screenings of HAZE for each of the following campuses:
Central Park Campus - 10/20/09 4:30-6:30pm

Preston Ridge Campus - 10/22/09 4:30-6:30pm

Using Gordie's story, The Gordie Foundation staff made a presentation to the Upper School students of Fort Worth Country Day School about the dangers of alcohol misuse and binge drinking. 

The Gordie Foundation was proud to have been included as a presenter for the F.C.C.L.A Texas (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Peer Education Training Conference.  Over 500 Peer Educators from across the state of Texas traveled to Austin for a two-day training on a variety of topics - one of which was understanding the signs of alcohol poisoning and the dangers of binge drinking.  The Gordie Foundation walked the students through the signs of alcohol poisoning and provided them with solutions and program options to take back to their prospective schools.

The Gordie Foundation was proud to have HAZE as an official selection of the 2009 BendFilm Festival.  BendFilm celebrates the brace voice of independent cinema through films, lectures and education. 

The Gordie Foundation traveled to The University of Maine to participate in the 6th Annual National Hazing Symposium.  The Symposium was designed to offer a day-long examination of research, theories and practical implications for addressing the problem of hazing. This year's program included particular focus on bringing together experts for in-depth discussions surrounding the issue of hazing.

National GORDIEday is an alcohol and hazing awareness event held each fall. The Gordie Foundation coordinates efforts with colleges, universities and high schools, and provides educational materials to participating institutions. The Second-Annual National GORDIEday was held during National Hazing Prevention Week.

On Wednesday, September 23rd, the St. Mark's School of Texas Counseling Office, in cooperation with St. Mark's Parents' Association, hosted a screening of the high school version of HAZE for all St. Mark's and Hockaday parents.

The Gordie Foundation presented to over 100 students from the Cleburne High School Chapter of  F.C.C.L.A (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).  The students screened the High School version of HAZE and received information about the dangers of alcohol  misuse and the importance of taking care of their peers when someone is in trouble. 

As part of their Hazing Prevention Week, Texas Christian University held a screening of HAZE for all students.

The Gordie Foundation proudly participated in the 2009 ALOUD College Summit.  The Summit brought together individuals from colleges and universities to focus on the issues and consequences of underage drinking and alcohol misuse on their campuses.

The Gordie Foundation spoke to students at the Art Institute of Dallas about the dangers of binge drinking and the importance of calling for help for a friend in need.  An extended trailer of HAZE was screened during the presentation and GORDIEcheck cards were distributed.

The Gordie Foundation participated in the 11th Annual Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center Leadership Conference.  This conference is the premier research-based conference on underage drinking prevention. 

The Northwest Alcohol Conference funding the Boise Police Activities League Youth Alcohol Programs was held in Boise Idaho, July 16-17.  The conference is designed as "A Place Where Individuals and Groups Can Work Together and Learn from Each Other to Improve the Quality of Life in Their Communities through Education and Enforcement."  HAZE was shown at the event and Gordie Foundation educational materials were distributed.

The Gordie Foundation is proud to co-sponsor the 2009 Presidential Leadership Award.  This award recognizes a college or university president who "promotes a vibrant intellectual environment and social climate that deemphasizes the role of alcohol".  The winner of the award receives a $50,000 donation made in their honor to his / her institution.  The application deadline has now passed.  Look for more information and announcment of the winner soon!

The Gordie Foundation presented a screening of the documentary HAZE on Sunday evening to a packed house, and spoke with collegians and alumnae at the Leadership Fair Monday morning at the 2009 Pi Beta Phi Convention.

All counselors at Gold Arrow Camp in California's beautiful Sierra National Forest watched HAZE and participated in discussion groups about alcohol misuse and hazing as part of their counselor training. 

Gordie was a proud member of the Class of 2004 of Deerfield Academy.  On June 13th, his friends gathered during their 5-year Reunion to remember Gordie and celebrate his life.  Speaking briefly were Gordie's dear friends, Alex Kleiner and Serena Keith as well as Gordie's coach and teacher, Mr. Davis. 

The 4th Annual GORDIEgala was held at the beautiful Four Seasons Resort & Club in Dallas on Saturday, June 13th.  The evening was a great success due to the generous support of friends, family, and supporters of The Gordie Foundation.  All proceeds from the evening, benefit the educational programs of the Foundation.  We thank all who were able to attend as well as all those who were unable to attend, but sent contributions and well wishes.

Friends of Brett Griffin, who died in November of 2008 of an acute alcohol overdose following a fraternity hazing incident, held a benefit concert in his memory.  Brett had always dreamed of playing with his band in the South Brunswick High School Auditorium - on Monday, June 8th, his band and two other bands played for him.  All proceeds raised from the concert will benefit The Gordie Foundation and a scholarship fund in Brett's name.

The Gordie Foundation was proud to be an official selection of HAZE to the 12th Annual Newport International Film Festival held in Newport, RI June 3-7, 2009. 

COT Member Jillian Fraker (of Trinity University in Hartford, CT) is studying abroad this year at Curtin University of Technology. In addition to setting up The Gordie Foundation's first COT chapter in the southern hemisphere, Jillian held an event for May 27th when Curtin students handed out educational materials at the campus pub.

The Gordie Foundation and the With Carson Foundation (formed in honor of Carson Starkey who died in December of 2008 of an alcohol overdose following a fraternity hazing ceremony) proudly presented HAZE to the Juniors and Seniors of Austin High School.  The presentation included Gordie's story, Carson's story, HAZE and a presentation on the dangers of alcohol and hazing.

The Senior class Blair Academy screened the high school version of HAZE and participate in a Q&A session on Friday, May 15th.

The college version of HAZE screened at the Milburn High School Auditorium on Thursday, May 14th.

The Gordie Foundation was proud to present the high school version of HAZE and a presentation on the danger of alcohol and binge drinking to the graduating class of Parish Episcopal School in Dallas.

The Senior class of St. Mark's School of Texas screened the high school version of HAZE on Thursday, May 7th.

The Gordie Foundation is proud to have HAZE as an official entry in the 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival.  The festival was held April 23-30 and focused on showcasing a diverse collection of studio and independent films. Watt Imagination and the Bailey family were on hand for the screening and Q&A.

Deerfield Academy Circle of Trust members Robbie Scott, Pete Berg, and Kaitlin Fobare held a screening of HAZE for all graduating seniors.  Following the screening, educational materials from The Gordie Foundation were distributed.  The purpose of this event was to send the seniors off to college with the knowledge they need to make responsible decisions about hazing and alcohol. 

The PTSA of Walton High School screened HAZE for their graduating Seniors during the annual Senior breakfast and for their parents the following day.

The Gordie Foundation was proud to have be an official selection and winner of the Director's Choice Award at the 2009 Indie Spirit Film Festival held in Colorado Springs Colorado.  The HAZE production team, Watt Imagination, was on hand for the festival and awards.

The Seniors of Episcopal School of Dallas will head off to college with knowledge of the dangerous drinking on college campuses after seeing the full version of HAZE on Thursday, April 23rd.

Leslie Lanahan, co-founder of The Gordie Foundation and Gordie Bailey's mother, presented to the graduating Seniors of the Taft School. The presentation included a screening of the recently released high school version of HAZE.

The Gordie Foundation presented a screening of the high school version of HAZE and hosted a Q&A for parents attending the monthly PTA meeting of Highland Park High School. 

Memorial High School screened HAZE and presented an introduction to their new Circle of Trust Chapter for their graduating seniors.  Many students went home and told their parents about the film.  "This is one of the best things Memorial has done for my son in the 4 years he has been here" - parent of Memorial student.

HAZE will be screened to the students at University of Wisconsin La Crosse.

The Counseling Center at SUNY Stony Brook Southampton hosted a screening of HAZE, followed by a presentation by campus police. Students who attended the event received Gordie Foundation educational materials to take with them on Spring Break to remind them to look after friends.

"AFI DALLAS is honored to be screening such a compelling documentary as HAZE at this year's Festival. Substance abuse is a huge problem in our general society, but an especially growing problem amongst the youth of our country as well. We hope that the screening and publicity of The Gordie Foundation through AFI DALLAS International Film Festival will help bring more light to this alarming and deadly topic." HAZE was screened on both Friday and Saturday to sold out crowds.  The Gordie Foundation's Honorary Chairperson, Robin Wright Penn was in attendance for the Friday screening and Q&A session. 

The Gordie Foundation presented to the Seniors and parents of Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland.  The presentation included a screening of the High School version of HAZE as well as a presentation by Gordie Foundation co-founder, Michael Lanahan.

Harvard University, with the help of COT member Alexandra Dowd, hosted two hazing prevention events.  On Monday, March 16th there was a HAZE screening open to all students.  On Tuesday, March 17th, Dr. Tim Marchell, Director of Mental Health Initiatives at Cornell University, presented an in-depth look at hazing issues at Harvard.  "I thought is was the most realistic and most well done movie about college drinking and hazing" - quote from Harvard student after watching HAZE.

The TCU Circle of Trust (COT) chapter, in cooperation with the TCU Alcohol and Drug Education Center, hosted Erica Upshaw for an alcohol awareness event.  Erica lost her brother to alcohol poisoning and now travels the country sharing her family's story.  The COT chapter also distributed Gordie Foundation materials, including our newest item, croakies!

On March 3rd and 4th, Debbie and Don Cross - who lost their son Tyler Cross to an alcohol related hazing incident at The University of Texas - shared their story and screened the high school version of HAZE to all Lovett School Seniors and their parents.

Thousands of croakies featuring the The Gordie Foundation tag line, "Save a life. Make the call." were shipped out to Circle of Trust chapters across the country.  Each chapter received a free allotment of croakies to be distributed to their peers encouraging them to take care of each other over Spring Break and throughout the year. 

Nearly 350 new Greek members at Boston University attended a New Membership Education Program on February 18th.  The program included a screening of HAZE with an introduction by Circle of Trust Charter Member, Isabel Tierney.

HAZE was screened as part of DocNight hosted by Denver Post film critic Lisa Kennedy.  The film's director, Watt Imagination, was on hand for the screening and a Q&A session / reception to follow.

The Gordie Foundation staff presented to the student body at Richland Collegiate High School in Dallas.  The presentation included a special screening of the high school version of the documentary HAZE. 

The Gordie Foundation proudly sponsored the keynote speakers at Hazing Prevention.org's 2008 National Hazing Symposium.  The symposium was held December 3rd in Denver Colorado in conjunction with the Association of Fraternity Advisors Annual Meeting.  The symposium was a day-long examination of research, theories, and practical implications for addressing the problem of hazing.   

As part of Substance Abuse Awareness Week, the University of Virginia Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team Programming Board hosted a crowd of over 300 for a screening of the feature documentary HAZE. 

Middlebury College enhanced their National GORDIEday events with a presentation by national speaker on hazing, Travis Apgar - October 22nd.  Their events concluded with a special screening on October 23rd of HAZE open to all students and the public. The screening was hosted by the Health and Wellness Education Dept and held at Dana Auditorium. 

Michael Lanahan, Board President and co-founder of The Gordie Foundation, participated in a panel discussion with Cynthia McFadden on:  How to Stop Wasting the Best and the Brightest:  Substance Abuse at America’s Colleges and Universities.

As part of their National GORDIEday programming, Trinity College hosted a special screening of HAZE with a brief introduction by Gordie's sister and Trinity freshman, Lily Lanahan.  The screening was followed by discussion groups on the issues covered in the film. 

The 1st Annual National GORDIEday was a great success!  Circle of Trust chapters across the country  participated in special programming and events to spread awareness about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing.  A special thanks to all who made this event such a great success!

HAZE participated in the 16th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton New York on October 17, 2008.  The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all.

Colorado College hosted a screening of HAZE at Armstrong Theatre on October 9th.  The event was  sponsored by Worner Campus Center and Campus Activities and was open to the public. 

The University of Maryland hosted a special screening of HAZE sponsored by the Panhellenic Association, the Interfraternity Council, and the United Greek Council for all Greeks with a special focus on those new to the Greek system.  In addition to the screening, UMD had individuals from Watt Imagination, the production team behind HAZE, speaking to the group.

Union College's Athletic Department hosted a special screening of HAZE for all students.

The University of Texas at Austin Interfraternity Council hosted Mr. Lanahan and a special screening of HAZE for students involved in Greek Life or other student organizations.  Attending the video conference was a required part of the new member education for joining a fraternity in the council.  Many of the Greek organizations will be making HAZE part of their new member education.

SMU hosted special screenings of HAZE during Parent's Weekend.  Parents and students were invited to view this feature documentary on the dangers of alcohol and hazing on college campuses across the country.

In cooperation with The Gordie Foundation, the Salve Regina University’s Alumni Office, Student Life, and Residential Life sponsored Gordie Day on September 17, 2008. The event hosted a variety of alcohol prevention exercises as well as a simulated fire truck, the opportunity to wear “beer goggles” and try to navigate your way through an apartment on fire. There was food, free gifts, prizes, and more. Throughout campus there were reminders of the dangers of alcohol poisoning along with remembrances of those students lost due to alcohol poisoning on college campuses.  The day concluded with a presentation by Will Lanahan, Gordie's cousin, a screening of HAZE, and a round table discussion group with Resident Assistants.

In conjunction with their Hazing Prevention Week, TCU Fraternity & Sorority Life hosted a special screening of HAZE to over 1,000 TCU students.  During this event, The Gordie Foundation passed out educational materials and registered new members for the TCU COT chapter. 

Representatives and supporters of many of our Circle of Trust chapters gathered together at the New York Yacht Club in New York City for The 4th Annual Kick Off Reception. The evening included fellowship, networking, and idea sharing about increasing alcohol and hazing awareness on college campuses across the country.   We thank each of you that were able to attend.

University of Colorado Boulder's student organization G.O.R.D (Guidelines of Responsible Drinking) hosted a week of events focused on the dangers of binge drinking and alcohol poisoning.  The event included a display of 6800 flags in the Norlin Quad - representing the students lives that have been lost to alcohol related causes since Gordie's death in 2004.  The week of events concluded with a dinner and panel discussion on September 17th, including various University of Colorado offices / departments, discussing what changes have been made to alter the drinking culture following Gordie's death.

Nearly 1000 SMU students gathered by the flagpole on the SMU campus for a special screening of the full length feature documentary HAZE.  After the film, students said it was "relatable", "balanced", and "inspirational".

The Gordie Foundation was pleased to partner with Outside the Classroom to present Dr. Jonathan C. Gibralter, President of Frostburg State University with the Presidential Leadership Award, a national honor recognizing his success in promoting a vibrant intellectual and social campus climate that de-emphasizes the role of alcohol.  Dr. Gibralter stands out as a shining example of the real work being done to address the perennial, up-at-night issue for college campuses across the country.  The Presidential Leadership Award aims to highlight and congratulate college and university presidents who have demonstrated kenn vision and innovative leadership by developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy that not only addresses the specific scientific educational needs of individuals but also seeks to bring about change at the institutional, community, and public policy levels.  The award caries a $50,000 donation made to the institution in the name of the recipient of which The Gordie Foundation contributed $25,000.

Virginia Commonwealth University hosted VCU Pride on August 20, 2008.  The event was for all incoming Freshman and VCU athletes.  VCU Pride focused on changing the attitudes and expectations of student athletes and included the distribution of several educational pieces from The Gordie Foundation as well as a viewing of the HAZE trailer.

The Gordie Foundation hosted a group of students from the Episcopal School of Dallas for an afternoon of volunteer activities. The students assisted Foundation staff with the preparation of educational items to be shipped to our Circle of Trust chapters this fall. In addition to their volunteer efforts, each student watched the trailer of the upcoming documentary HAZE.

The Gordie Foundation met with several organizations and universities to discuss the topic of alcohol and drug abuse and misuse on college campuses and the partnerships that can be formed to help combat the problems.

The 3rd Annual GORDIEgolf Classic was a great success! Beyond the dollars raised, more than 250 guests attended the dinner and auction and over 120 golfers participating in Monday's Classic. The Gordie Foundation presented to a group of graduating seniors and their parents. The presentation focused on alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, and hazing as well as the importance of taking care of those around you - Save a Life. Make the Call. In addition, the presentation included a special screening of an extended trailer for the upcoming documentary HAZE.

The Gordie Foundation presented to the graduating seniors of The Taft School.  Their presentation included Gordie's story and information about the dangers of binge drinking, hazing, and alcohol poisoning on college campuses with a strong focus on taking care of those around you.  The presentation also included a special viewing of an extended trailer for the upcoming documentary HAZE.

Circle of Trust Members told Gordie's story as part of a Choose Responsibility panel discussion on the lowering of the drinking age.  The program was held at Brunswick Middle School for parents and students.

The Gordie Foundation participated in Middlebury's Safe Spring Break Programming with a presentation to over 200 students about the dangers of alcohol and binge drinking.

The Gordie Foundation spoke to the Juniors and Seniors of Deerfield Academy in preparation for Spring Vacation. The presentation included information about Gordie's tragedy as well as general information on the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. At this presentation, the rough cut for the upcoming documentary HAZE was viewed.

The Gordie Foundation presented at the Risk Management Seminar at University of West Florida.  The presentation was to a group of 300 Greeks and included a viewing of the HAZE trailer as well as information about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. The event was organized by The University of West Florida and the Florida Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

The Gordie Foundation spoke to an audience of several hundred at the University of Oklahoma about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. This event was organized by the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

The Gordie Foundation once again partnered with University of Virginia and NCAA in the 17th Annual APPLE Conferences. The APPLE Conferences are the leading national training symposiums dedicated to substance abuse prevention and health promotion for student athletes and athletics department administrators.

Thanks to the efforts of Circle of Trust member Kate Parks and the ladies of the Chi Omega and Kappa Delta sororities, Michael Lanahan spoke to an audience of over 800 Clemson University students. His presentation included information about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. At this presentation, the trailer for the upcoming documentary HAZE was also viewed.

Students at The Taft School sported green Gordie bandanas that were passed out by Lily Lanahan, Gordie's sister, and her friend Sam Shiverick at a Saturday night dance featuring Orange Crush.

Thanks to COT member Amanda Levy and the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Mr. Union was a successful event. At this event, male students competed to capture the title of Mr. Union. The competition included a swimsuit competition, talent section, and a question / answer session. This event also contained a raffle of GORDIEgear items. All proceeds of the raffle and ticket sales were for The Gordie Foundation and the Union College COT chapter.

The Gordie Foundation was a proud guest of the Regional Conference dedicated to engaging adults to help keep our young people on the right track. The conference included speakers from various organizations as well as words from First Lady Laura Bush.

Brothers of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity distributed hundreds of GORDIEcheck cards and koozies to students at the University of Texas vs. University of Nebraska football game. These wallet-sized cards and koozies each display the signs of alcohol poisoning and the importance of calling for help if your friends are in need.

To kick off National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, SMU hosted Memorial Monday on campus. On this day, 1700 green Gordie flags were placed on campus representing the over 1700 student lives lost each year to alcohol related deaths. In addition, hundreds of GORDIE bracelets were distributed to students.

The Gordie Foundation visited Hillsdale College and spoke to hundreds of students, mostly Greeks and athletes, about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. At this presentation, the trailer for the upcoming documentary HAZE, was also viewed.

In cooperation with The Gordie Foundation, the Salve Regina University’s Alumni Office, Student Life, and Residential Life sponsored Gordie Day on September 18, 2007. The event hosted a variety of alcohol prevention exercises as well as a simulated fire truck, the opportunity to wear “beer goggles” and try to navigate your way through an apartment on fire. There was food, free gifts, prizes, and more. Throughout campus there were reminders of the dangers of alcohol poisoning along with remembrances of those students lost due to alcohol poisoning on college campuses.

Representatives from many of our 80 Circle of Trust chapters came together in New York City for a wonderful evening at the New York Yacht Club for our 3rd Annual Kick Off Dinner. It was an evening of fellowship, networking, idea sharing, and the first viewing of the upcoming documentary, HAZE. A special thanks to all who attended and shared in this evening with us.

Volunteers from ESD spent the day at The Gordie Foundation office completing various tasks to assist The Gordie Foundation staff with day to day operations and upcoming special events.

Jane Rea Navin, Executive Director of The Gordie Foundation, presented during the junior and senior alcohol awareness assembly at Woodrow Wilson High School. The assembly focused on the dangers of alcohol and binge drinking and the importance of taking care of your friends during prom and graduation events. GORDIEcheck cards were given to each of the students.

Gordie Bailey was one of the 1400 students that die each year from alcohol related causes. To raise alcohol awareness through the promotion of dialog between parents, students, and educators, The Gordie Foundation established GORDIEawareness Week. During this week, 1400 flags were displayed on Molina’s campus (a campus of over 2500 students) to illustrate the number of students lives lost each year to alcohol. In addition, GORDIEbracelets were distributed to students.

Cape Fear Academy incorporated GORDIEawareness week into their advisory program for the entire Upper School (grades 9-12) during the week of the Junior/Senior Prom. During a Monday assembly, advisors read information sent by the Gordie Foundation. Each student then received a GORDIEcheck card. On the way out of the assembly, students grabbed a handful of the flags and met the rest of the student body on the front lawn of the Upper School to place all 1400 flags in the yard to be displayed during the week.

The Gordie Foundation participated in the annual volunteer fair and GORDIEawareness day. We will have a booth set up to inform students and parents about the volunteer opportunities at the Foundation as well as the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. Our display of 1400 flags (representing the 1400 student lives lost to alcohol each year) will be displayed on the campus as well.

Each attendee was given a GORDIEcheck card that keeps students aware of the signs of alcohol poisoning. Feature articles will be published in the Daily Campus, SMU's student newspaper. A day of tunes, turns, fun and sun - all benefiting G.O.R.D (Guidelines and Objectives Responsible Drinking). G.O.R.D. was founded by a small group of undergraduate alumni of Chi Psi and former pledge brothers of Gordie's, who wished to carry on his legacy by helping others. G.O.R.D has now expanded into a complete representative entity of the University of Colorado student body.

The Amherst College Circle of Trust Chapter held it’s first annual spring dance party and contest to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and binge drinking.

The Gordie Foundation spoke to a group of 800 Greeks about the dangers of alcohol, binge drinking, and hazing. The Kappa Alpha fraternity, who sponsored the event, also handed out Sam Spady cards reminding the students of the signs of alcohol poisoning.

The 2nd Annual GORDIEgolf Classic was a tremendous success by any measure! Beyond the dollars raised, more than 200 guests participated in this year’s Classic and will share Gordie’s story in communities across the country. The Gordie Foundation was proud to sponsor and participate in the 2007 APPLE Conference. The NCAA, in partnership with the University of Virginia, established the APPLE Conference to assist schools in promoting student athlete health and wellness by empowering teams of student athletes and administrators to create an institution-specific action plan. Through these conferences, The Gordie Foundation was able to network and visit with other alcohol education professionals as well as college athletes from across the country.

In an attempt to break a world record, students at the University of Colorado participated in the “Gordie Hug” at Folsom Field, during the second quarter of the football game against Arizona State on Saturday, September 16. Approximately 50,000 in attendance were asked to hug the people standing around them, in memory of Gordie Bailey and honoring the “hug club” which Bailey formed at his high school to promote unity. Following the game, 28,000 GORDIEcheck cards were handed out by G.O.R.D which was formed at UC Boulder following Gordie's death.

Representatives from many of our 68 Circle of Trust chapters came together in New York City for a wonderful evening at the New York Yacht Club for our 2nd Annual Kick Off Dinner. This event has proven to be a valuable tool to gauge the success of individual chapters and to further the development of COT programming. The Gordie Foundation would like to thank all of the COT members, as well as Gordie's family and friends for sharing in this great evening. We look forward to a wonderful year of promoting alcohol awareness across the nation.

The Gordie Foundation has settled into its new home in the Swiss Avenue Historic District near downtown Dallas. The newly renovated 400 sq foot loft style building will allow the Foundation to grow and expand programming as well as house future program and volunteer events.

Organized by CAMPUSSPEAK Inc. the 2nd Annual National Hazing Symposium brought together authors, educators, spokespersons, hazing victims, hazing experts, as well as students from Greek life, athletics, and clubs. On behalf of The Gordie Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Lanahan were awarded an Anti-Hazing Heroes Award for 2005 by CAMPUSSPEAK Inc. and Sigma Nu.

Mr. and Mrs. Lanahan were invited by First Lady Laura Bush to attend The White House Conference on Helping America's Youth at Howard University. More than 500 parents, civic leaders, faith based and community service providers, foundations, educators, researchers, and experts in child development gathered to discuss the problems facing America's youth.

This leadership forum was held on the one year anniversary of Gordie's death at The University of Colorado. Attendees included former members of Gordie's fraternity, leaders from fraternities, sororities, and other student groups as well as administrators. Over 200 people gathered to hear key speakers including Michael Lanahan discuss the dangers of the drinking environment at UC Boulder and the consequences of hazing.
